When Gum Disease is present, it is very important to treat it for a number of reasons.  Gum Disease, also known as Periodontal Disease has been linked to numerous, serious medical conditions.  Cancer, Heart disease, Stroke and incidence of low birth weights in babies are only a couple of the many, very serious medical complications associated with this disease.   Periodontal disease can also worsen an existing diabetic condition.  In order to rid our patients of Gum Disease and restore health to the patient, the dentist or dental hygienist at Dental Health Experts will remove all of the infected bacterial deposits and toxins from the teeth and tissues above and below your gums.  At the same time that the infection is being removed, an antimicrobial solution is used around the teeth and below the gums to further increase the effectiveness of treatment.  Additionally, an antibiotic is placed below the gums to further kill the infection and improve health.  Unfortunately, regular antibiotic pills taken by mouth will not do anything to help with this type of disease.  The only way to rid the patient’s mouth and body of these harmful bacteria is through the methods described above.  If this disease is left untreated, it will almost always worsen and could then require treatment in the form of surgery.  For these reasons, it is imperative to seek regular and consistent dental care and to treat this condition as early as possible.  Like so many other medical conditions, early detection, diagnosis and treatment are critical to long term health and success.
